Text Box: An audience of more than 150 people enjoyed the Eastmanaires 2009 Christmas concerts at The Center at Eastman. They were put in the Christmas spirit by many secular and sacred Christmas pieces, sing-a-longs, and solos. It concluded with “The Christmas Canticles” arranged by Benjamin Harlan.

Text Box: Eastmanaires Christmas Concert puts everyone into the Christmas spirit.

Text Box: At the Sunday performance the audience and the Eastmanaires were pleasantly surprised by an unannounced visit from the Honeymooners, an a cappella singing group consisting of two married couples. Joanne chose four “random” people from the audience to come up and try to sing a Christmas carol together. When these four, allegedly picked at random, started singing an upbeat barbershop style version of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” the expressions on the faces of the audience and the Eastmanaires were priceless when they realized that this was not just a random group.

Text Box: There were also solos by John Zentis and our director Joanne Whiting. John sang “Jesu Bambino”, an Italian Christmas carol composed by Pietro Yon in 1917 and translated to English by Frederick H. Martens. Joanne sang the well-known “O Holy Night”.
As no Eastmanaires Christmas concert is ever complete without a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus, they took a break from their busy preparations to hand out goodies to everyone.
Both concerts, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, were fun evenings enjoyed by both the audience and participants alike.
